Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board
Minutes
January 7,2010
Tree Protection Document has been finalized. Will be posted on HFAB's
section of the city website; copies will be available at the Planning Department;
and comment will be solicited from Council at the April study session (Chris will
distribute to Council members in advance.)

2010 Arbor Day/Earth Day Celebration - Arbor Day is traditionally observed on
the third Friday in April (this year is April 16.) Discussion about coordinating with
Open Space activities (Theresa will contact Ember); open space and parks
cleanup; raising awareness of Arboretum; replacement of trees in John Breaux
memorial area on Front Street with one large tree, to be planted on Arbor Day.

Landscape Maintenance-Discussion centered on residential landscape
issues. Suggestions include polling residents regarding specific issues that need
to be addressed; and providing some sort of plant identification tool to help code
enforcement officers.
Regarding maintenance of entryways and outlots in subdivisions (estimated at
100 in the city limits), Dean stated that considerable research would be required
to determine who is responsible for each area, and the city does not have the
resources to maintain such properties. Theresa suggested that if active HOA's
want to design, install and maintain their areas, the Master Gardener program
would be able to help with design.

Discussion Items for Next Meeting-New tree planting in John Breaux park.
Arbor Day/Earth Day plans. Library or other presentations (co-sponsor County
Extension tree talk with Jim Ord.)

Adjourn - The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 pm.
