..,.
Rob Lathrop, 235 Hoover ct. , Louisville, owner of the Rental
Center of Louisville.
Lathrop: I am speaking to the restaurant incentive
idea proposed by Councilman Howard. There is
so much that angers me about the content of
this article that I feel compelled to speak
out. I would like to quote from the Louis-
ville Times of April 11, "Its purpose, the
economic development conference scheduled for
April 26, 1990 is to share a common pool of
information on economic development that will
help unite and further promote the
community's efforts. without that common
language things don't hold together. People
start to go off on their own directions,
maybe we will get some synergy going, Howard
said."
Councilman Howard said he has an idea that
might help local restaurant owners increase
business during their slow days. The article
also says that "Councilman Howard is consid-
ering drafting a letter to local restaurant
owners to see if they would be interested in
pursuing the idea further and he invites
persons to contact him if they have any ideas
that would help make the program work." I am
concerned that the program is proposed by one
councilperson who wishes a leadership role in
economic development for our city. The
proposal only addresses one segment of the
business community. According to the Louis-
ville Times article this proposal is the idea
of Mr. Howard, but I can assure you that I
have had other business people ask me what
the City is doing? Increasing restaurant
revenue on Monday or Tuesday, is the owners
responsibility. Increasing revenue on
Wednesday, my slow day, is my responsibility
and I accept that as being part and parcel in
business. councilman Howard's proposal
should be dropped like a hot potato.
REGULAR BUSINESS
MAYORAL APPOINTMENTS - ARTS & HUMANITIES COUNCIL - (2 VACANCIES)
Mayor Fauson: There are two vacancies and I have received a
letter from the Arts & Humanities Council
recommending Peter Stewart for one of the
council vacancies and a joint appointment of
Sharon and David Heyman for the other
2
