.., .
PUBLIC COMM........iTS
NONE
REGULAR BUSINESS
MAYORAL APPOINTMENT - PLANNING COMMISSION VACANCY
Mayor Fauson appointed Ronald Weber to the Planning commission
vacancy (1 vacancy - completion of 6 year term - January 1994).
REQUEST FOR SUPPORT OF "MAC" (METRO AREA CONNECTION LIGHT RAIL
PROJECT)
Bill Womack, Director of Transportation.
Womack: Bill Jorgensen gave presentation at your work
session. This is a project that basically I feel
we should support. We are going to spend about
$250 million. Since about 75% of the people in
the area support a light rail system, we have to
put in one somewhere where we think it will work.
We feel the MAC project will work. We have the
funds for it. The MAC project is a very short
project. It will help all of the area. We are
asking for a resolution supporting this project.
Howard: Are we going to see a rate increase from this?
Womack: The situation is, RTD has a policy that we do not
increase rates more than inflation every year.
Sackett: The request for support, at the DRCOG meeting it
is such that if they (the Council) vote in favor
of this project that I will be obligated to follow
the vote. I have heard that this particular
project doesn't take people anywhere. It would be
much better if you could go from the Tech. Center
to downtown. Is there another place that other
people think is a better place for this project?
Womack: We have 67 million dollars to do this with.
People are saying why don't you build down at the
southeast corner. That's 800 million, so we are a
little bit short. We think we should build what
we can afford, we don't need any more taxes at
this time.
Mayor Fauson: The route from Boulder, Louisville, Superior and
Broomfield, they tell me at the rush hour there is
standing room only on the buses. People from RTD
tell me you are short of buses, if you are short
of buses why not buy buses instead?
Womack: We buy buses with Federal grants. If we had to
2
