..11
every year about whether we should be
spending money, taxpayer money for us to
go. My problem is it wasn't in the
budget, it wasn't a line item in the
budget. Randy, you're saying that it
was. . .
Carnival: I didn't say line item. I said money is
allocated in the budget for CML
conventions.
Hornbostel: ...it is not specific enough and I really
believe that there should be more
specification. We are now in a climate
where the state statutes are now doing
much more about what elected officials
can do. We can fall right into line with
that and make that much easier on
ourselves. When it says, when you go to
CML these are the things you're allowed
to pay for, these are the things you are
not and this is the cap that you can be
reimbursed for. I just think that it is
time for us to sit down look at the
issue. Since it was brought up last week
I'm only saying it's something that needs
to be addressed before we have another
CML next year and we get into the same
discussion which happens every single
year. It is something that could be
taken care of fairly easy when you sit
down and say the reasonable amount to go
to CML is. Next year you may not have
this problem because I am looking forward
to the fact that it is in Fort Collins
and I will be able drive up and back and
not have to worry about staying at a
motel. It certainly is an issue that I
think we should sit down and say what are
those expectations. As long as we are
doing the budget right now I think it was
the appropriate time to bring it up.
Carnival: Mr. Mayor, since I had the floor. Once
again I am not disagreeing with you that
if you want to be open and up front with
people that you put a line item that says
CML Convention expenses, absolutely. I
have no problem with that, the problem
24
