The Foundation Board is expected to talk
about fundraising efforts, particularly how electronic mailing of Citywater bills is
impacting the Foundation’s annual utility bill mailing each October. They will also
discussplans for the upcoming joint meeting of the Library Board of Trustees and the
Library Foundation Board, which is set for March 11.
Ê×××òÒ»© Þ«·²»
ßòλª·»© Ы¾´·½ Ô·¾®¿®§ ß²²«¿´ λ°±®¬
Beth prepared the report and distributed a copy to each Board member. The finalized
report is due to the Colorado State Library by March 15, 2010.
×ÈòÜ·®»½¬±® λ°±®¬
ßòͬ¿¬·¬·½
The Board reviewed the annual statistics.Beth noted that January 2010 circulation has
increased 10% from December 2009.
Beth also noted the number of items being borrowed through Prospector, an interlibrary
loan (ILL) program comprising more than 20 public and academic libraries. The Library is
a net borrower (2/1 ratio of borrowing to lending), but this would be expected from a
smallerlibrary. As a net borrower, we pay slightly higher courier costs through the
Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC), but much less per transactionthan under
“traditional” ILL services, which estimate the cost of each transaction to be~$30.
ÞòÝ·¬§ ݱ«²½·´ Þ«¼¹»¬ 묮»¿¬
Beth reported that City Councilmust decide how to cut an additional $400K–$500K from
the 2010 budget. The City’s management team had prepared and categorized
recommendations which are being revised based on City Council’s direction.
Cuts have already been made to all departmental budgets, and the Library has limited
opportunity to make additional cuts in staff and materials. Beth has proposed that the
Library be closed either one day per week or for one week. Each scenario has
drawbacks, but closing for an entire week would spread salarycuts across the entire
staff, would maintain more service hours for the public, and would save approximately
the same amount of money—$15-$18K. Beth also proposed some small revenue-
generating measures, such as meeting room fees for non-residents, charging for holds
not picked up, and increasing fees for color copies.
The budget cuts will be voted on at the City Council meeting on March 2.
ÝòÒ¿¬·±²¿´ Ô·¾®¿®§ É»»µ ß½¬·ª·¬·»
National Library week is April 11-17.The Library will have a reception for patrons on
Saturday, April 17, from 10am–12pm.
