becomes North 115 Street. It is immediately SE of where the creek moves under the
road.
• The third property is east of 109` Street and south of Lookout Road. County open space
is on the south, while Lookout Estates and County open space are located to the east.
Boulder Creek borders the SE corner of the property.
Status: County will pursue opportunities as they become available, but nothing is
happening at this time.
B. Trail Requests:
1. Rock Creek/Coal Creek Trail extension from Lafayette to Erie.
Status: A bridge was constructed across Coal Creek in 2003 at Flagg Park in
anticipation of a future connection to existing portions of Coal Creek trail in Lafayette
and Louisville. The County continues to investigate easements through private property
east of Lafayette and routing options on County land near Highway 7 to make a full
connection to the lager Coal Creek/Rock Creek Trail system. City of Lafayette was
advised of trail needs along their wastewater treatment plant north of Highway 7. .The
County has.no current plans for Coal Creek trail expansion north of Highway 7 but will
continue to work with the Town of Erie to facilitate trail expansion within their
jurisdiction.
2. Boulder Creek Trail On -going gravel mining operation near the confluence of Boulder
Creek and Coal Creek north of Kenosha Road and west of County Line Road.
Slaw's: Trail extension into Erie from Kenosha Gravel Mine will be coordinated when
gravel mining operations near Kenosha Road are completed in 2004 and property
reverts to open space in the mitigation phase. Mitigation work for wetland area and
trail will be completed in 2005 -2006. Trail links will likely be internal within the
Kenosha property since trail links to the larger Boulder Creek system are not included
in Comprehensive Plan for the area.
3. Union Pacific Railroad Rail line has been discontinued by UP and the Boulder County
Regional Trails Committee prioritized the corridor as a potential trail corridor from Boulder to
Erie. Strongly want to pursue an easement that would permit a trail to run Erie into Boulder.
Status: In 2004 Boulder County will initiate a trail feasibility study to be completed by
an independent consultant. The City of Boulder and Town of Erie will be asked to help
define the scope of work within the feasibility study.
4. Connection of trails from Arapahoe Avenue to the trails of Erie, Lafayette, and the Kneebone
Open Space. The Kneebone Open space Property located at the corner of 111 and
Arapahoe Avenue. Several informal trails exist on the property and we would like the county
to consider development of formal trails on this property. We are aware that the City of
Lafayette is putting in a bridge to connect a trail from the west side of the Hawkridge
development to the northeast end of the open space. Just across Arapahoe (to the north) is a
city of Erie trail that surrounds the Arapahoe Ridge subdivision and connects to the shopping
center on Arapahoe and US 287. This trail will eventually connect with the other trails in the
Town of Erie. The town would like the County to assist in developing short term and long
term plans and aid in the funding of a crossing of Arapahoe Avenue to these other trails. It is
likely that an under -grade crossing is the desirable permanent solution.
Status: the county has no plans in this area
Page 3
