As shown on our plot -plan, our "lot" actually consists of two long, narrow lots that are
each 25 feet by 125 feet. Because these are such narrow lots, they cannot be developed in
conformity with the zoning ordinance. In addition, our home is peculiar insofar as our house
and our neighbor's house to the north are approximately 30 feet apart despite the proximity of
the lot line to our house. Unlike the rest of the neighborhood, the space on both sides of our
house is actually rather large due to fact that it was built closer to the north lot line, as it appears
our neighbor's house was as well.
In planning this remodel, we have been working with an architect who we directed to
meet several criteria including: that the structure should be well integrated with the existing
building and not simply look tacked on; that its overall height be kept to the minimum practical,
to reduce possible shading. We believe he achieved these objectives in designing a structure that
will blend nicely with the rest of the building. The addition is located at the back of the building
only.
We enjoy living in the older downtown area of Louisville and do not want to move to
a newer home simply to get adequate space. We believe that by accomplishing this remodel we
can live in a home that has the best features of both an older home and modern conveniences -
like closets. I will be happy to answer any additional questions you may have and look forward
to getting this issue resolved. If you would like to discuss this on the phone, please call me at
my office number during business hours - 666-4557.
David Lewis
