We understand that this issue requires balancing of property <br />rights: the rights of our neighbors to alter their property as <br />they see fit, and our rights not to be harmed by their actions. <br />We also understand that replacing a foundation is <br />expensive. Additionally, for every two feet the addition is moved <br />to the south, only one foot of shadow will be removed from our <br />house. <br />Instead, we ask that if you choose to grant this setback <br />variance, you also require that the height of the second -story <br />addition, which has a cathedral ceiling, be lowered.
