He referred to City Manager
Fleming's remark relative to not satisfying Mr. Sobel and noted the assumption behind
the remark is when the City does something there is no room for improvement. He
reviewed Comcast's proposal to acquire 44 cable channels and stated it would include
entertainment web sites, broadcast television networks, local television stations, sports
teams, movie studios, sports arenas, theme parks and archives of movies and TV
shows. He also addressed Mayor Sisk's comments relative to Comcast's right of free
enterprise and requested clarification.
COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL COMMENTS ON PERTINENT ITEMS NOT ON THE
AGENDA
Mayor Sisk responded to Mr. Sobel and clarified he is also concerned over Comcast
proposal to acquire 44 cable channels. He felt the avenue to take would be through the
Congress of the United States and the Federal Trade Commission. He asked Sobel not
make his expressions of concern personal against City Staff members. He reported on
an email from a resident relative to the delays at the Highway 42 /South Boulder Road
intersection and requested City Manager Fleming respond to those concerns in his
report. He reported 29 applications were received for City Boards and Commissions.
City Council will conduct interviews on Monday, November 8 and Tuesday, November
9. He noted the election is on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at which time all the
campaign ads will be concluded.
