See attached presentation slides.
2. Presentation Comments
Andy said it was an excellent introduction to Livable Cities.
Tom explained that many of the Livable City principles are in place for how the City deals with storm
water.
Mark mentioned that a good document for the group to review would be the City of Louisville's
Comprehensive Plan.
Arno mentioned that with a similar set up to Lafayette's website with auto subscription to specific
topics, like Livable City principals. Arno was particularly interested in how Livable City
principles addresses public art, and he expressed the interest in introducing more art to
Louisville parks. Arno also asked the question about any consideration of turning Main Street
into a pedestrian only zone.
Andy suggested the idea of considering Main Street as a multi -use area with cars, pedestrians.
bikes, etc. with the introduction of trees and greens space to sides of Main.
Annie wants to hear more statistics on improved individual health due to Livable City principles;
wants to hear about more information that is more personal in nature. Annie suggested that it
could open up open space to gardening with a leasing agreement to avoid conflicts.
All agreed that there needed to be an understanding of what connections we would like to make for
bikes and pedestrians to areas around town; Tom requested that the types of connections be
specific.
Mary Ann suggested looking at turning unused parking space into green spaces and parks.
Arno reiterated that the principles are about getting people out of cars, and that Louisville is already
well connected for pedestrians and bikes.
Tom suggested that we take these ideas and see how they may be applicable to the Parks
Recreation Plan (which is up for review shortly) and the Comprehensive Plan.
Dave brought up the issue of community agriculture and that it is something that will become
increasingly important; maybe the group makes a goal of having 10% of food sold in Louisville
come from Louisville.
Andy suggested that in moving forward with presenting the Livable City presentation that it would be
good to offer specific, attainable ideas in how the principles could be applied in Louisville.
Mary Ann will be revising the presentation based on the group's comments.
VIII.
