<br />IE <br /> <br />CITY OF lOUISVlllE <br /> <br />February 22, 2005 <br /> <br />City Council Study Session <br /> <br />The City Council ofthe City of Louisville met in a study session in the City Council Chambers, <br />749 Main Street. The following persons were present - <br /> <br />City Council: <br /> <br />Mayor Chuck Sisk, Mayor Pro-Tem Jay Keany, <br />Councilors Don Brown, Michele Van Pelt, Arnold <br />Levhin, Sheri Marsella, and Dave Clabots <br /> <br />Staff present: Keith Williams, Mandy Perera, Belinda Goebel, Meredyth Muth, Julie Boyd, <br />Bill Simmons, Heather Balser <br /> <br />Dinner with Youth Advisory Board <br />Council and members of the Youth Advisory Board introduced each other and shared <br />pizza and conversation from 6-6:30 P.M. The following Youth Advisory Board (YAB) <br />members were present: Rachel Miller, Chair; Keegan Dougherty, Vice Chair; Emma <br />Tussey; Megan Valentine; Stephen Kaplan; Carter Gee-Taylor; Nathan Lawrence; <br />Christopher Fitzgerald; Lauren Albrecht; Colin Woods; Andy Sydow. Dr. Joel Frye, <br />Business Liaison to the Youth Advisory Board, was also present. <br /> <br />Youth/Teen Center Survey and Next Steps <br />Rachel Miller, Chair, provided an overview of the Y AB activities for the year. Keegan <br />Dougherty, Vice Chair, explained that the Y AB is trying to research interest for a teen <br />center in Louisville. Surveys are available in all the local schools, and over 800 surveys <br />have been submitted to date. Rachel Miller stated that 65-70% of the respondents are in <br />favor of a teen center in Louisville. <br /> <br />Council member Don Brown asked the Y AB for their ideas in a teen center; what would <br />they like to see offered. <br /> <br />The Y AB stated they would like to see activities, educational programs and counseling <br />offered, as well as pool tables, ping pong, computers, vending machines, and music. The <br />majority of respondents would prefer a stand-alone center, versus being a part of the <br />Recreation Center. <br /> <br />Discussion centered around what age groups would use the teen center. The possibility of <br />having earlier hours for younger youth & later hours for teens was discussed. <br />
