Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
November 25, 2024
project manager will put the project out to bid. Contractor availability can
cause delays. It's possible that the project may not start until the fourth
quarter. There have been no decisions about the cricket field/water retention
area just south of the Rec Center.
Nancy Beery asked about decisions regarding Zoom classes.
• Kathy said that the Rec Center is currently making a stopgap upgrade to
continue Zoom classes in the building. Funds will be in next year's budget for
a permanent upgrade. Instructors have been informed that they are allowed
to share this information. The exercise rooms will be converted to Zoom
rooms, and all Zoom classes will be held at the rec center. This involves a
technology and licensing upgrade which will put the City in compliance with
Microsoft and Zoom.
Staff Updates
Budget Update — Kathy Martin
• The City Manager search is ongoing. The position closes December 1. A
Meet and Greet is scheduled for December 17, if all goes well.
• The Senior Thanksgiving Feast served over 200 participants. There will also
be a Senior Holiday Luncheon in December.
• A lifeguard training class is underway with seven participants. Some of the
participants are adults who will have daytime availability, and one may be
interested in the Head Lifeguard position.
• The long-range Comprehensive Plan is out for bids, with proposals due
December 12.
• City Council made decisions regarding Capital Projects and the Operating
Budget.
o Projects that were approved include a water amenity project, a pool
pump replacement, pool furniture, infill dirt at ballfields, conversion of
the inline rink to pickleball courts, hybrid fitness upgrades, fitness
equipment replacement, new stereos, and replacement mirrors in Mt
Elbert.
o Many needed repairs and replacement equipment for the Golf Course
and Golf Clubhouse were approved.
o Quite a few projects were put on hold or moved to a later date. For
example, tennis court resurfacing at Centennial Park was moved to
2026.
o There was some reduction in the Operating Budget for the Rec Center,
but City Council approved close to the amount requested.
o Additional details are in the City Council packet.
