Library Board of Trustees
Minutes
January 13, 2011

d.The Board also discussed the availability of the book drop as it impacts

collection and delivery of items back to the Library.
A bookdrop located outside would require collection and delivery of materials
to the Library every day. This may be problematic with respect to Town of
Superior staffing issues and the need to check in materials daily to prevent
overdue fees to users.
Having the book drop available during normal Town Hall business hours
––
(8am5pm, MF) seemed a more viable option given the Town’s staffing
considerations and the more likely location of the book drop on the interior of
Town Hall.
It was also noted that the materials returned from the Town of Superior book
drop would require manual processing, as they will bypass the automated
materials handling system that is planned for later this year.
The Board agreed with Sandy’s suggestion that she bring this issue to the Town
Board for further discussion and consideration with respect to the items noted
above.
IX.Ongoing Business

A.Library User Survey

Alicia initiated a discussion of the current status of the project. She stated that in light
of some new initiatives, notably the One Book project, that the time, effort, and
resources required to design, administer, and tablulate such a comprehensive survey—as
well as report and implement findings—would be better spent on projects in which
Board members had the requisite expertise. Board members do not dispute the
importance and usefullness of such user data, but recognize that to do this in a
meaningful way requires a professional effort beyond the scope and ability of the
Board.
The impetus for the project was to identify perceptions and usage patterns of Superior
residents, as well as to identify barriers to Library use by Superior and Louisville
residents. Additional information about usage trends and user preferences might also be
useful in planning, however, budgetary considerations are likely to have more impact on
those decisions. The Library can continue to evaluate usage data that are available from
many sources to help inform programming, collection, and other service decisions.
The Board unanimously agreed to table further discussion to the May meeting. In the
meantime, Sandy will pursue an abbreviated version of a user survey for her
constituents.
B.Policy Review

Beth noted that most Library policies have not been reviewed since 2007 and that there
are some changes that should be made.

The Board unanimously agreed to consider individual policies as Beth and Karen have a
chance to review and make recommendations for revision.
City of Louisville
::
Public Library :: 951 Spruce StreetLouisville, CO 80027
303-335-4815 :: 303-335-4833 (fax) :: www.louisville-library.gov
