Memorandum
To:Historical Commission
From:Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator
Date:June 8, 2011
Re:Museum Coordinator’s Report
th
On May 17, City Council presented a plaque to Don Ross in recognition of his many years of
service on the Historical Commission.
In May, I attended the2011 meeting of the Society ofRocky Mountain Archivists. I heard
presentations about grant writing and digital projects in particular.
Oral history volunteer Dana Echohawk and I attended a program on successful oral history
techniques presented at Boulder’s Carnegie Library in May.
In the last month at the Museum, I provided particular assistance to people who are researching
the histories of their Louisville properties, two families working onlong distance family history
researchrelating to Louisville, andLouisville Middle School students seeking research
resources for their History Day project.
The Boulder Genealogical Society is embarking on a project to create an 1890 substitute
census for the Boulder County area, given that most of the 1890 federal census records were
destroyed in a fire. The Museum will be participating in this effort and I will be providing
information about whatresourcesthe Museum has in its archives from the years around 1890.
This month, Iplan to nominate the Museum for two History Colorado awards for the Fall 2010
Louisville Historian containing Pete Lindquist’s polished and professional article on “The Untold
Story of Louisville,” which he has donated to the Museum.
Thank you to Pat Seader and Virginia Caranci for carrying on the tradition of making pizzelles
outside the Museum during the Taste of Louisville! We saw about 95 visitors at the Museum that
day. Merchandise sales came to $57.00. Thank you to the other Commission members who
were on hand to talk with visitors.
Museum Visitors Report(these statistics represent visits to the Museum itself, andnot inquiries
May visitors: 63; YTD visitors: 363.
that come in by email or phone):
