HistoricalCommission <br />Subcommittee Meeting Minutes <br />May 31, 2011 <br />Louisville Public Library <br />Second Floor Board Room <br />951 Spruce Street <br />12:00 noon <br />I.Commission Members Present <br />: Brian Chamberlin andJennifer Strand. Commission Chair <br />Dan Mellish was unable to attend. <br />City Representatives Present: <br />Beth Barrett, Directory of Library & Museum Services,and <br />Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator <br />Members of the Public Present: <br />Pete Lindquist <br />II.Members met to prepare a presentation for the City Council. <br />A.The purpose in meetingwas to prepare a PowerPoint focusing on what the Museum does <br />to preserve Louisville’s history.Bridget shared images anddocumentation for Brian to draw <br />on in drafting his presentation.Accomplishments that were mentionedby attendees <br />included:(1) increased membership (to 509paying membersat the present time); (2) <br />historical walkingtours; (3) oral history program; (4) project to scan County Assessor cards <br />for Louisville properties;(5) Louisville Historian publications; (6)publicprogramming; and <br />(7)the supportprovided by the Museum for book projects. <br />B.Primary needs that were discussed were:(1) improving access to the collection (this <br />includes a strong desire to digitize the photo collection and make it available online as well <br />as additional staff time for added access to the Museum and support for volunteers); (2) <br />opening all fourbuildings of the campus; (3) cataloging and collection care; and(4) storage <br />for the Museum’s collectionto make possibletheaboveitems. <br />C.Other items discussed: (1) Wayne Lee and Maggie Snyder’s upcoming book about <br />Louisville; (2) how so many visitors to the museum come away with a different relationship <br />with their home or their town based on what they learned there (Bridget has quite a few <br />stories to demonstrate this and provided a list of some of the people recognized by the <br />th <br />Museum in the past year for what they have done for Louisville); (3) the 25anniversary of <br />the Museum; (4) asking for City Council support to make the Museum able to do more for <br />the community by additional funding; and (5) giving City Council the chart put together last <br />year which shows comparative fundinglevelsfor city-owned museums in this region. <br />III.Action: <br />Brian will draft a PowerPoint presentation and share it. <br />V.Adjourn,1:10p.m. <br />City of Louisville <br />Louisville Historical Museum <br />749 Main Street Louisville CO 80027 <br />303-665-9048(phone) 303-335-4550 (fax) www.louisvilleco.gov <br /> <br />
