HistoricalCommission <br />Minutes <br />June 15, 2011 <br />Page 2of 3 <br />g.From Virginia Caranci, two books for the Museum’s reference collection, <br />Green Light on the Tippleand the Time-Life book The Miners. <br />Held over to the next meeting are decisions regarding decorative woodwork <br />taken from a historical downtown building and a quilt associated with the <br />Pleasant Valley Grange. <br />2.Museum activities and programs <br />a.Barbara DiSalle and June Enrietto have donated $666to the Historical <br />Commission in memory of close family friends and former Louisville <br />residents John and Elma Allera.They asked that the Museum put it <br />toward something special of the Museum’s choosing. Discussion ensued <br />about how best to use this generous and unexpected gift. Ideas included <br />using it as the initial deposit for a Museum archives building fund. Bridget <br />stated that she would follow up and talk with them further. <br />b.The City is adding insulation to the attics of the Museum buildings to keep <br />down energy costs. Bridget also stated that unfortunately, an area of <br />standing water has again been found in the basementof the Jacoe Store <br />following heavy rains. <br />c.Commission members and Bridget Bacon discussed issues relating to <br />th <br />plans to observe the 25anniversary of the Museumaround Labor Day: <br />1)The next Brown Bag Lunch on Aug. 2 is on the founding of the <br />Museum and will feature people who were instrumental in making <br />it happen. <br />2)The Museum will again have a Labor Day Parade entry featuring <br />the Moynihan and Koglin families, andanyother interested <br />Commission members. <br />3)A banner to hang along the side of the Museum is currently being <br />specified and ordered. <br />4)The Museum will be open on Saturday, Sept. 3. There was <br />discussion, but no final decision about perhaps offering birthday <br />cake or cupcakes or something similaroutside the Museumto <br />mark the date. <br />5)Reception for members. The Commission discussed organizing a <br />th <br />25anniversary reception focusing on members. It was generally <br />decided to have the reception outside on the campus outside in the <br />early evening during the week or weekend following Labor Day. <br />Bridget stated that she could ask Museum volunteers to help staff <br />the Jacoe Store and Tomeo House so that they can be open for <br />attendees to visit. There was discussion about the possibility of <br />offering something special to members during this reception such <br />as a book-signing event. Following up on suggestions made by <br />City Council members during the recent Study Session, the <br />Commission would like to consider how the reception could also <br />help downtown business. Jennifer Strand and Sally Burlingame <br />volunteered tospend more timeon the event and make more <br />specific recommendations along with a budget at the next meeting. <br />D.Bylaws: <br />The Commission had a discussion about the proposed revised bylaws. There <br />was a concern expressed about the language articulating the Commission’s duties, <br />particularly regarding the Commission’s responsibility for fund raising. Bridget Bacon <br />stated that she will clarify this issue with the City Manager’s Office and ask ifthe draft <br />bylaws canbe revised based on the request from the Commission and reviewed again by <br />the Commission at the next meeting. <br />E.Chairperson’s Report <br />.Since Chairperson Dan Mellish had to missthe City Council Study <br />Session, the Commission took this agenda slot to update Dan on the study session. It was <br />expressed that Brian Chamberlin gave an excellent presentation and adiscussion followed <br />on working with the City to increase Museum services. <br /> <br />
