City Council <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> June 7, 2011 <br /> Page 3 of 10 <br /> Councilor Muckle commented on Consent Agenda Item 4 C the 2011 Recreation <br /> Center Mechanical System and stressed the importance of it being a very energy <br /> efficient project, which will make the pool and the Recreation Center better for many <br /> years to come. <br /> REGULAR BUSINESS <br /> APPROVE BID AWARD FOR 2011 STREET RESURFACING PROJECT TO APC <br /> CONSTRUCTION <br /> Mayor Sisk requested a Staff presentation. <br /> Public Works Director Phare explained the Public Works Department is requesting <br /> approval of a bid award to APC Construction Co., LLC for the 2011 Street Resurfacing <br /> Project. Three (3) Contractors submitted bids for the project. Bids are as follows: <br /> APC Construction Co., LLC 788,698.75 <br /> Asphalt Specialties 818,181.81 <br /> Brannan Sand Gravel $1,013,175.50 <br /> The 2011 Street Resurfacing Project includes an asphalt mill and overlay of 9,000 <br /> square yards of W. Dahlia Street between W. Cherry Street and Dillon Road, a chip seal <br /> application of approximately 86,000 square yards on various local streets and Plaza <br /> Drive, and miscellaneous patching and leveling. Construction activities on the project <br /> are scheduled to commence in late June and be substantially complete by mid August. <br /> Staff will provide public notification and coordinate with the contractor to provide a "call <br /> line" that will be frequently updated with construction schedule information. Public <br /> notices will be issued to impacted residents and neighborhood field meetings will be <br /> conducted with the contractor available to respond to resident concerns. <br /> Staff recommended the City Council award the 2011 Street Resurfacing Project to APC <br /> Construction, in the amount of $788,698.75. <br /> COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> Council questions centered on residents' complaints during last years' project. Public <br /> Works Director Phare stated the staff will look at alternatives before this year's project <br /> begins so as to mitigate potential problems. <br /> MOTION: Mayor Pro Tem Marsella moved to award the 2011 Street Resurfacing <br /> Project to APC Construction, in the amount of $788,698.75; authorize staff to utilize a <br /> $20,000 project contingency and execute change orders, and authorize the Mayor and <br /> City Clerk to execute the contract documents on behalf of the City, seconded by <br /> Councilor Muckle. Roll call vote was taken. The motion carried by a vote of 7 -0. <br />
