Exhibit space for visual art
G. Rooms for educational programming
H. Comments and opinions of attendees re: observations,
desires, and expectations for new arts center
. New arts center won't make money itself (Disney model =
break even on rides and make $ on food)
. Arts center could be run by its own 501c3-City can't and
won't pay for it
. Performing groups don't cover costs with ticket sales;
they require grants
. We need to think for the future and consider the needs of
the county
. Purchase of St. Louis Catholic Church unlikely, and costly
to retrofit as a theatre.
. LMS still belongs to BVSD and, thus, is not only
expensive to rent but will be less accessible when
renovated because it will then be large enough to fulfill
the needs of all the school's programs.
. LCC wants to see a new arts center in the downtown area.
(Options include Storage Tech.)
. No point in talking about where money may come from
until there's a clear plan for what the facility would look
like-estimated cost of the project = minimum of $15
million.
