<br />ARTICLE 7 <br /> <br />DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />Section 7-101. General Interpretation <br /> <br />The words and terms used, defined, interpreted, or further described in this <br />Ordinance may be construed as fol lows: <br /> <br />(A) The particular controls the general. <br /> <br />CB) The word "shal I" is always mandatory and not directory. The word "may" <br />is permissive. <br /> <br />CC) Words used in the present tense include the future unless the context <br />clearly indicates the contrary. <br /> <br />CD) Words used in the singular include the plural, and words used in the <br />plural include the singular unless the context clearly indicates the contrary. <br /> <br />Section 7-102. Words and Terms <br /> <br />The fol lowing I ist of specific words and terms is defined as fol lows: <br /> <br />CA) AI ley. A minor right-of-way dedicated to publ ic use, which gives a second- <br />ary means of vehicular access to the back or side of properties otherwise <br />abutting a street and which may be used for public utility purposes. <br /> <br />CB) Ar-terial Street. Any street serving major traffic movements which is <br />designed primari Iy as a traffic carrier between cities or between various <br />sections of the City, which forms part of a network of through streets, and <br />which provides service and access to abutting properties only as a secondary <br />function. <br /> <br />(C) Block. A tract of land bounded by streets, or by a combination of streets, <br />rai Iway rights-of-way or waterways. <br /> <br />CD) Bui Iding Setback Line (Front). A I ine nearest the front of and across a <br />lot or parcel of land establ ishing the minimum open space to be provided be- <br />tween the front line of a bui Iding or structure and the line of the fronting <br />street right-of-way. <br /> <br />(E) Col lector Street. Any street designed primarily to gather traffic from <br />local or residential streets and carry it to the arterial system. <br /> <br />CF) Comprehensive Development Plan. The comprehensive development plan for <br />the City of Louisvi I Ie, Colorado, which has been officially adopted to provide <br />long-range development policies for the City and which includes, among other <br />things, the plan for land use, land subdivision, circulation and publ ic faci lities. <br /> <br />CG) Cul-de-sac. A local street having one end open to vehicular traffic and <br />having one end closed and terminated by a turnaround. <br /> <br />CH) Density. The number of dwel ling units per acre of land devoted to housing <br />and usable open space. <br /> <br />7-1 <br />
