Louisville City Council Meeting <br />April 4, 2000 <br />Page 3. <br /> <br />Anne Mojo thanked the City Council for their support of the Louisville Public Library for <br />the last ten years at their 950 Spruce Street location. She stated that the Library has <br />grown in resources both electronically and in printed form. <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION - ARBOR WEEK <br /> <br />Mayor Davidson proclaimed the week of April 22, 2000 as Arbor Week in the City of <br />Louisville, Colorado. He stated that the City will be recognized through the National <br />Arbor Day Foundation for earning recognition as a Tree City USA for the 19th <br />consecutive year and that Arbor Day will be observed on Saturday, April 22, 2000 with a <br />tree planting ceremony at the arboretum. <br /> <br />Davidson presented the Arbor Week Proclamation to Howard Teague, Tree Board <br />Chairman. <br /> <br />Howard Teague, Tree Board Chairman thanked the Mayor and Council on behalf of the <br />Horticulturist and Forestry Advisory Board. He stated that the Board appreciates the <br />support of Council and Staff and that the City should take pride in the progress that has <br />been made on the entryways into Louisville and the arboretum. <br /> <br />Craig Jones, District Forester, presented Mayor Davidson with a plaque for the <br />recognition as a Tree City USA for the 19th consecutive year. He stated that Louisville is <br />committed to trees and as part, has hired David Sexton as City Forester. He stated that <br />Steve Basinger contacted him relative to a new street tree inventory and that he looked <br />forward to that process and working with the new City Forester. He congratulated the <br />Mayor and Council on their continued commitment. <br /> <br />Steve Basinger, Park and Recreation Director introduced Dave Sexton, the newly hired <br />City Forester. He stated that Sexton is a graduate of CSU, a certified arborist and <br />formerly the assistant City Forester for the City of Longmont. <br /> <br />Davidson commended the efforts of the Horticulture and Forestry Authority. He stated <br />that they are a very active Board that helped the City create the City's landscaping plans <br />and pointed out the need to hire a City Forester. He extended the Councils' and citizens' <br />thanks to the Board. <br /> <br />Mayer commended the efforts of the Horticulture and Forestry Board and recognized the <br />efforts of Eugenia Szeto, a National Forester. Mayer stated that Szeto had discussed the <br />need for a professional City Forester. He felt that the City has made great strides in <br />horticulture and forestry and thanked Council and Staff for their efforts. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br /> <br />
