Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
November 21, 2011
Stewart asked how much has been previously issued to this residence.
McCartney answered approximately $16,000.
Public Comments
John Leary stated he believed $66,000 to $76,000 is too much for one owner. He mentioned
this is a good example as to why an HAS is important.
Commission Comments
Stewart agreed it was a lot of money. He added almost every house in Old Town has the
same situation – substandard roof.
McCartney reminded the HPC this structure had 4 layers of shingles which adds a
considerable amount of weight.
Stewart requested more information about shingle weight before they made a decision.
Poppitz sated he believed the grant request of $60,000 is too high.
Speier stated the cost is based on the preservation efforts being used. He asked if a trussed
roof would be cheaper.
Stewart agreed.
Koertje asked if staff could ask the contractors to rebid for trusses and have it by next meeting.
McCartney stated he would start working on it immediately.
Fasick made a motion to continue this request for more information. Poppitz seconded the
motion.
NameVote
Mike Koertje Yes
Heather Lewis excused
Jessica Fasick Yes
Florian SpeierYes
Laurel Tofte absent
Peter Stewart Yes
Steve Poppitz Yes
Motion passed: 5 to 0
Discussion – Building Assessment – Request for Proposal (RFP)
McCartney presented the memo.
Stewart asked how the RFP process would be handled.
