Alternative #3 involves less sidewalk work, but is
approximately 400 feet from the Recreation Center entrance.

Public Works Director Phare commented that either Alternative #1 or #2 meets
the immediate need of getting the public safely across Via Appia.

Mayor Sisk requested public comment.

Paul Everett, 301 Van Buren Court, Louisville, CO noted with the new Skate
Park, there will be increased pedestrian crossing. He asked if the there was any
consideration given to placing the crossing between the Recreation Center and
the Skate Park.

Public Works Director Phare explained the pedestrian crossings in Alternatives
#1 or #2 would connect to the trail system.

COUNCIL COMMENT

Council member Marsella inquired as to the current bike path north of Via Appia
connection to the pedestrian crossing. Mr. Woolfall stated the current bike path
is higher than the pedestrian crossing and would have to be leveled out. He
explained bike traffic would be slowed down to enter into the pedestrian crossing.

Council member Keany voiced his concern over the safety with Alternative #3.
He favored Alternative #2.

Council member Van Pelt noted the crossing at Alternative #1 and #2 would be
utilized more. She voiced her preference to Alternative #2. She asked if
Alternative #2 would impact the bike paths. Mr. Woolfall stated the median could
be enlarged without impacting the bike lane or traffic lanes.

Council member Brown suggested consideration of options such as painting or
signage to give advance warning to motorists.

Council member Levihn voiced his preference for Alternative #2 for the safety of
the pedestrians.

Council member Keany inquired as to the pedestrian crossing at Canyon & 10th
Street in Boulder and noted it appears to have grooves throughout the crossing.
He asked if that could be a consideration.
