<br />City Council <br />Special Meeting Minutes <br />October 11 , 2005 <br />Page 2 of 8 <br /> <br />Traffic and Access Study on State Highway 42 (SH 42). The purpose of the <br />study was to examine future capacity needs for SH 42 and based on those needs <br />the right-of-way required for future laneage. The work included a review of traffic <br />impacts on South Boulder Road at BNSF rail crossing and an analysis of a traffic <br />signal installed at Short Street to accommodate future traffic at the commuter rail <br />station. The Short Street signal would replace the one currently planned at <br />Griffith Street. Future roadway improvements will require additional right-of-way. <br />Existing right-of-way has been identified and future right-of-way needs <br />established based on alternative alignments. <br /> <br />Council member Brown arrived at 7: 16 p.m. <br /> <br />David Woolfall, Carter Burgess, presented a PowerPoint presentation of the <br />findings for an alignment that will utilize additional right-of-way on both the east <br />and west side of SH 42. <br /> <br />Pu rpose <br />. Develop alternatives <br />. Assist with TI P Application for some improvements <br /> <br />Traffic Data <br />. South Boulder Road carries 26,000-27,000 vehicles per day on 4 lanes <br />. SH 42 carries over 20,000 vehicles per day on 2 lanes <br />. 2030 forecasts show 50% to 75% increase in traffic <br />.
