Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
Feb. 8, 2012
Increase public spaces (i.e. more gathering areas, install public art);
o
Embed Livable City Principles in operating/management
o
documents.
VI. Staff Updates
At the City Council Meeting, the PROST Master Plan was approved.
Staff is working with some local Boy Scouts to build bat boxes and kestrel
boxes.
Volunteers in 2011 – Generally, the numbers have held steady. There
was a slight decline in large projects.
Volunteer information and packets have been updated.
o
Reported mountain lion sighted at the North End near Hecla Lake, but
thus far, Staff has not been able to confirm.
VII. Board Updates
Open Space Open House for May 2012 – Alison has volunteered to lead
the subcommittee.
Mike and Helen reviewed the 2011 Raptor Nest Monitoring Summary put
out by Staff.
City of Boulder had to shoot two coyotes due to very aggressive behavior
(biting).
Tom has a couple of students who are doing dog park surveys around the
metropolitan area. Tom and his students noted that in the hour they took
surveys on Davidson Mesa at the off-lease area, the majority of people
polled indicated their willingness to pay some type of entrance/use fee.
This issue will likely come up again during the design phase for the
o
McCaslin / Washington underpass.
VIII. Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda
Caryn Greer, 161 Raintree Ln.:
Ms. Greer was at the City Council meeting last night because she
o
wanted to hear the plans regarding improvements/expenditures at
the golf course.
She stated that she and many individuals from her group (LOSST)
o
dislike the idea of spending a significant amount of money on the
golf course.
She stated that most people who have tried to use the golf course
o
for walking or other purposes have been asked to leave.
She suggested to Council that they do further study before
o
spending additional funds on the golf course. She recommended to
OSAB that we do not include language that would permit the golf
course to tap Open Space Tax revenues.
Angie Layton, 619 W. Juniper Ct.:
Ms. Layton lives near Warembourg.
o
