City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />April 10, 2012 <br />Page 3 of 7 <br />City Manager Fleming asked if someone is interested in joining the YAB, who <br />should they contact? Mandy Perera at the Louisville Recreation Center is the <br />best person to contact. <br />Councilmember Jasiak asked who will be buying the Dear Louisville book? The <br />Board said they hoped parents of members and people in the community, and <br />said it would be a great coffee table book. Proceeds from the sales are going to <br />a Louisville non - profit group that helps with homeless and runaway youth. Books <br />should be available in the next week or so and will be on sale at the Street Faire. <br />Mayor Muckle asked the City to promote the Dear Louisville book on the City's <br />website and on Channel 8. Thanked the YAB for their volunteer work, and said <br />they make the City look good, and the Mayor thanked the members who will <br />continue serving on the Board. Mayor Muckle expressed his desire for outgoing <br />members to continue their service work in some way. <br />At the end of the presentation, Mayor Muckle presented certificates to outgoing <br />members. The following members received a certificate: Brody Coronelli, <br />Christina Hamerly, Brooke Hubbard, Eliza Miller, and Megan Valentine. Lucas <br />Laird and Samantha Webster were not present to receive their certificates. <br />Liaisons, Kriska Daltonhurst and Mandy Perera, presented to Megan Valentine a <br />special award as the last outgoing member ever to serve 8 years on the Youth <br />Advisory Board. Megan joined the YAB in 5th grade, and now the requirement is <br />that you have to be a 6th grader to join. Megan received a framed painting of <br />Louisville which happens to be the cover of the Dear Louisville book. Megan <br />happily received the honor and said to continuing members, "I trust this board will <br />carry on without me." <br />Update /Discussion — Seniors of Louisville Advisory Board <br />Carol Purfurst, Chair, presented on behalf of the Board. Carol reviewed the core <br />values of aging well in Boulder County which are 1) Basic Needs such as the <br />lunch program at the Brooks Cafe, housing and safety 2) Individual and <br />Community Involvement such as getting involved with youth of all ages and <br />promoting a positive image of aging, 3) Health and Wellness such as <br />participating with other seniors with limited mobility and end -of -life issues, 4) <br />Independence and Care Giving which is viewed as the professional quadrant and <br />left up to the Senior Services staff. <br />The Vision of the Senior Advisory Board is "aging well." The Board provides <br />advice to City staff, and the Board is the link between staff and the aging <br />community. Highlights of the Board's accomplishments are: <br />• The Housing Focus group has continued to monitor the senior housing <br />situation in Louisville by getting involved with the Planning Commission, <br />
