City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />May 22, 2012 <br />Page 5of7 <br />Comments /Questions: <br />• Mayor Pro Tem Dalton asked when a development plan comes to the City <br />who reviews the landscape plan? City staff reviews first and then HFAB <br />members review and have the opportunity to make tweaks (what is <br />appropriate and not appropriate landscaping). <br />• Chris Lichty, Horticulture and Forestry Supervisor, is planning a pruning <br />workshop. Councilmember Jasiak said she would like the pruning <br />workshop to run on Channel 8. <br />• Chris also would like to work on removing Russian Olives both at LES and <br />LMS and then replant. <br />• Mayor Muckle requested HFAB submit a CIP request for the restroom <br />building at the Arboretum. <br />• Councilmember Loo suggested putting this on the agenda to discuss. <br />• Councilmember Sackett said the Arboretum is an example of what people <br />can do in their own yards, and thanked HFAB for their work. <br />• Mayor Muckle asked if there could be a grass demonstration at the <br />Arboretum? Mike Frontczak thought it was a great idea but the grass <br />plots would have to be well maintained by City staff. Chris Lichty thought <br />this might work in a raised garden. <br />• Mayor Muckle inquired about the visibility of retail establishments along <br />McCaslin and the private landscapes /trees that interfere with the visibility <br />to the establishment. Suggested this be an agenda item for a future <br />meeting. <br />• Mayor Pro Tem Hank Dalton suggested a review of the City Sign Code as <br />that could also be useful in the discussion. <br />• Mayor Muckle thanked the Board for all the work they do. <br />Update /Discussion — Open Space Advisory Board (OSAB) <br />Tom Davinroy presented on behalf of the Board and presented 2011 <br />Accomplishments and 2012 Goals. <br />Accomplishments: <br />• Met for the third time and collaborated with Town of Superior Open Space <br />Committee on common issues. <br />• Enhance the education and outreach program — extremely successful. <br />Board members attended and assisted with the programs. The Fishing <br />Frenzy has been one of the most popular events and the Weed Whackers <br />are helping to mitigate noxious weeds on open space. <br />• Review and make recommendations regarding development plans and <br />management opportunities <br />2012 Goals: <br />• Educate stakeholders about the Conservation Trust Land Acquisition Fund <br />
