Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 16, 2012

Lewis - I think the plaque design is a great improvement and has simplicity which might
result in better pricing. I agree with including the website - it could change over time. I
like the miner logo because of the connection to downtown.
Public Comment
John Leary - I like the design idea, but I would like to have some information as to why
this house was designated as a landmark - maybe a short description. Maybe there
could be an additional plaque to include text underneath. There is a group in Florida
who fabricates these signs.
Fasick - what do you think about placement.
Leary - I like staff’s idea of having it near the street - maybe on the fence.
Jean Morgan - there is a plaque at 1117 Lafarge located near the street that has a good
design idea. Maybe the logo can be rotated.
Koertje - I like the design idea - the number should correspond to the landmark number.
Remove website. Placement should be up to the owner.
Stewart - Placement of the plaque is based on size of the sign. What about size.
McCartney - maybe 8 by 10.
Lewis - as for placement maybe we could require a post be placed in the yard.
Fasick - that should be left up to the owner when they landmark. We won't force them
to get one if they don't want one.
Lewis - 8 X 10 and then maybe one that is 1/3 bigger. Get quotes
May Kay Knorr - the Stevens’ sign on Lafarge is too little.
Koertje - staff, please get quotes.
Sandstone Retaining Wall
Lewis - A neighbor of ours brought this idea up thinking it was unique and worth saving.
Robinson gave staff's report regarding the location of the retaining wall.
Stewart - do we know the history of this wall.
McCartney - no, but we will contact Bridget.
Stewart - maybe we could landmark this as a structure of merit.
