Saturday, December 10 ❖ 2 -3 PM Holiday Traditions Unveiled by Active Minds If you've ever wondered why we have Christmas trees, or for that matter holiday lights, eggnog, holly or mistletoe, join us to learn about the origins of a wide variety of holiday tradi- tions and examine how they have evolved over time. Tuesday, December 13 ❖ 4 -5 PM Louisville's own Singin'Seniorswill present their annual concert of holiday melodies. Wednesday, December 14 ❖ PM The Polar Express Story Time (all ages) Join us for this annual Library tradition. There will be crafts and hot chocolate after the Story Time. LOCAL HISTORY BROWN BAG TALK Tuesday, December 6 ❖ 12 -1 PM (Library Meeting Room) Here Today and There Tomorrow: Louisville and Its His- tory of Relocating Buildings Historic Preservation Commis- sion member Heather Lewis will present this talk, based on her article in the Fall 2011 issue of The Louisville Historian. CHILDREN'S ART AT THE LIBRARY Opening Reception ❖ March 1 ❖ 5:30 -7:30 PM The Louisville Library and the Louisville Art Association sponsor this non - juried show for students ages 4 -18. Partici- pants must be residents of Louisville or Superior or attend Louisville or Superior schools. Student work will be on dis- play in the Library Art Gallery. Applications will be available in January at the Library. TEEN TECH WEEK 2012 « Geek Out @ your library" is this year's theme for Teen Tech Week, March 4 -10. Teen Tech Week provides information and hands -on experiences to help teens become competent and ethical users of technologies, especial- ly those that are available through libraries. Check the Library web site or Louisville Loft Facebook page for details about special tech - related activities. DISCOVER EARTH: A CENTURY OF CHANGE From early November through December 24, the Library is hosting an exciting new interactive ex- hibit. This free exhibit, on loan from the Boulder -based Space Science Institute, will make Louisville its first stop on its 10- library national tour. The exhibit highlights the people who carry out earth and environmental science research in challenging places, such as the North and South Poles and in the deep ocean. The exhibit features several hands -on displays includ- ing Magic Planet, which allows patrons to explore stun- ning visualizations of the global earth system produced by NASA and NOAA, such as tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes, plate tectonics, changing sea ice, and more. Along with the exhibits, visitors are encouraged to participate in creating a photo archive of local environ- mental changes within the last 100 years by displaying personal photos of the local area as part of the exhibi- tion. Come in to the Library gallery on the first floor to see photos of Louisville and Boulder County and bring in your own photos, stories, and artwork to add as part of the display! CU OUTREACH PROGRAMS IN 2012 You may have enjoyed hearing the talented CU- Boulder Opera Theatre Singers at the Library in October. We are happy to report that other CU pro- grams are scheduled at the Library in 2012, as part of the University's outreach efforts.
