LIBRARY & MUSEUM NEWS <br />SUMMER READING FOR EVERYONE <br />JUNE 1— AUGUST 3 <br />ONLINE REGISTRATION BEGINS MAY 28 <br />Summer Reading Programs begin soon and online registra- <br />tion begins Monday, May 28 at wwwLouisville- Library.org. <br />Program details and schedules will be available on the Library <br />web site and Facebook pages, as well as calendars and flyers <br />available in the Library. <br />CHILDREN'S THEME: "DREAM BIG — READ" <br />for toddlers through 6th grade <br />Activities include programs exploring meteors with the Fiske <br />Planetarium, creating ooze and goo with the WOW Museum, <br />designing our own Lego Land, magicians, and more. Our <br />Weekly Book Club will be reading Babe: the Gallant Pig by <br />Dick King Smith, and the Down Under Animals and Art <br />Club will be a four -week session learning and creating every- <br />thing Australian. <br />TEEN THEME: "OWN THE NIGHT" <br />for 7th grade &up <br />Special events this summer include a film- making workshop <br />(to prepare for the Boulder Shoot Out contest), Dark Knight <br />movie marathon, a chainmail jewelry seminar, a self - defense <br />and personal safety program, game nights, and much more. <br />There will be something scheduled every week for teens. Be <br />sure to register, check our web site, or become a friend of the <br />Louisville Loft on Facebook for details throughout the sum- <br />mer! <br />ADULT THEME: "BETWEEN THE COVERS" <br />for ages 186. up <br />Enjoy books, movies, and other special events about all things <br />nocturnal. <br />AUTOMATED MATERIALS HANDLING <br />Raenovations to the Library's book drop room are <br />lmost complete and the new Automated Materials <br />Handling system — affectionately named "Chuck" — is set <br />to be installed. Patrons can return their library materials to <br />"Chuck" and have them checked in immediately. The system <br />checks in and sorts materials into seven bins and will help <br />save the Circulation Staff more than 50 hours each week, <br />helping us to get materials back on the shelves faster and <br />allowing the Circulation Staff to spend more time assisting <br />patrons at the front desk and in the lobby. <br />www.louisville- library.org <br />www. fcebook .com!LouisvillePublicLibrary <br />www.facebook.com /LouisvilleLoft <br />NOOK® EREADERS AVAILABLE <br />FOR CHECKOUT <br />Nooks — preloaded with bestsellers and more — are <br />available to Louisville and Superior residents ages <br />18 and older. The Nooks can be placed on hold through the <br />online catalog and checked out for three weeks. For more <br />information, visit the Library web site or call 303.335.4820. <br />CALL FOR LOCAL ARTISTS <br />The Library is inviting artists and photographers from <br />the Boulder County area to exhibit their work in the <br />Gallery, located in the north wing of the main floor. <br />The Gallery has 50 linear feet of exhibition walls with <br />13 -foot ceilings, a track and cable hanging system, and two <br />display cases for three - dimensional art. Please contact Karen <br />Freiter at 303.335.4815 for an application. <br />HOMEWORK CENTER - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED <br />The Library Homework Center is looking for adults <br />or high school students who are available from 3:30 <br />- 5:30 PM one day per week, Monday through Thursday for <br />the 2012 -2013 BVSD school year. Volunteers monitor stu- <br />dents and guide them in completing their assignments. Those <br />with math skills are especially needed. Please call <br />303.665.9048 for more information. $5 suggested donation. <br />LIBRARY PARKING ON STREET FAIRE FRIDAYS <br />The underground lot beneath the Library is open on <br />Friday afternoons during the Street Faire season. <br />While the surface lots to the north and east of the Library are <br />closed at 2:00 PM on those Friday afternoons, you can access <br />the underground lot using the one -way alley off Walnut, a <br />block north of Spruce Street. The lot has handicapped spaces <br />and an elevator that will take you to the Library's entry plaza. <br />May 2012 <br />
