Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
September 17, 2012
Stewart stated the preservation master plan should be considered a priority.
Watson wasn’t too warm on the idea of having a consultant come in and tell us what we
should and should not preserve.
Stewart stated he didn’t see a problem because the HPC would be involved.
Fasick asked if the CLG covered the Downtown Business District.
Robinson answered in the affirmative.
Fasick said she liked the idea of the preservation master plan first.
Discussion ensued about deadlines.
Discussion – HPC/LRC Study Session
Robinson gave the details about the time, location and date of the meeting. He stated
this meeting will primarily be a discussion between HPC and LRC involving the
questions the HPC and LRC created for one another.
Stewart asked if this was discussion only or was there a written response required for
their questions.
Robinson stated it was discussion only.
La Grave hopes the intent of the meeting is to be positive and constructive.
Robinson agreed and stated the staff liaison for LRC, Aaron DeJong, is working hard to
make sure this is a cordial meeting.
Lewis stated she hoped this would lead to more communication between the boards in
the future.
Discussion – HPF funds outside Old Town
Robinson stated there was discussion at the last meeting to research what it would take
to change the HPF to stretch outside of Old Town. Staff learned from the City Attorney
that it would take an amendment to the Ballot Issue 2A.
Discussion – Top 10 structures to preserve
Robinson stated the purpose of this list is seen as the first step to the preservation plan.
Some structures on the list were: Casa Allegre, Hospital on Jefferson, Huckleberry,
Saint Louis Parrish, State Mercantile, OLI, Grain Elevator, Methodist Church, Old
Church, 844 Main (Mortuary), Hecla Mine Casino, 724 Main and 728 Main (a.k.a. Hanks
Trains), Waremburg Barn, Henry’s, Joe’s Market, etc.
Committee Reports – Outreach Committee
