Vol. 2 — Jointly Owned Boulder Country- Lafayette - Louisville Open Space
Management Plan — Patrick Malone said he'd met with the Lafayette Open Space Board
on Nov. 6 and got unanimous approval of the plan with two amendments. The two
amendments, one dealing with "good neighbor" language and another proposing a trail
connection from the South Pointe neighborhood, running between the Mayhofer 15 and
Boulder County Land Venture (BCLV) irrigated fields.
Bob Muckle asked whether an MOA designation for BCLV could be considered on the
same basis. Mr. Malone said that (i.e., an MOA vs. NPD designation) was not the
recommendation of City of Louisville staff. Ms. Lair confirmed that and noted that she
stood by her NPD status recommendation.
Commenting on the proposed trail extension, Pat Hornbostel mentioned that he was
"concerned, but not overly concerned" about the impact of the trail on wildlife corridors
in the event the properties (Mayhofer and BCLV) are ever converted away from ag
status.
Mr. Muckle noted that the LOSCAB had recommended the inclusion of language in the
plan that called for reclamation or restoration with native plants and asked why that
language was not included.
Ms.,Lair said the recommendation had not been passed on because it's not economically
feasible to reclaim ag lands with only native plants and that it would not prove sufficient
ecological benefit.
Matt Jones said the Open Space Ordinance and the City Charter both include language
that requires the use of "native" vegetation for replanting or revegetation.
Wayne Varra agreed with Ms. Lair that it is not economically feasible.
Mr. Jones then opened the discussion to comments from the public:
Marty Dondelinger, 1026 Meadow Ct., Louisville — Mr. Dondelinger said he was
surprised there wasn't more direction in the plan re: recreational activities and felt that
component should have been more strongly emphasized.
Dave Jansen, Louisville resident - Mr. Jansen asked Cindy Lair when the plan would be
presented to City Council. Ms. Lair said as early as Dec. 16, 2003, but potentially as late
as January as the StorageTek discussion may take precedence with Council.
Comments from the Board:
• Bob Muckle said he'd like to see BCLV, designated as an MOA and asked about
