Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />November 3, 2005 <br />Page 3 of 5 <br />(4) :Fundraising strategies for the Arboretum.- Funding.and:w <br />•Grant Opportunities, : t <br />Chris Lichty provided copies to the Board of the last <br />Colorado Tree Coalition (CTC) grant application. Discussion <br />was held about the grant application process. By <br />consensus, the Board decided to put together the Grant <br />Application, which is to be submitted by December 9.' <br />'Matt and Theresa will work with Chris to develop the grant <br />application. The grant requires a match. The_Board:. - <br />discussed possible. partners in the project and:sources for <br />the required match. Theresa and Matt are to report back, <br />to the Board on December 1 regarding; progress, on the: <br />application. . <br />Matt recommended that we pursue the "brick recognition" <br />fund raising project for seeking donations for the arboretum. <br />This topic is to be included in future Board meetings <br />regarding fund raising. <br />The Board was reminded that Dave Russell will be doing <br />research to identify other funding opportunities (grants, <br />donations; etc.) and report his findings to the Board at the <br />December meeting. <br />A general discussion was held about the management of the <br />Arboretum. ,Caryl has observed children - playing in the'xeric's <br />garden. She expressed 'concern about the prairie dogs in , <br />the field west of the Arboretum, SE of,the police° station. ` In <br />the past, prairie dogs ate irrigation lines'and'dug holes'in,the <br />Arboretum <br />VIII. Forestry Ordinance <br />Forestry ordinance is going before Council sometime in Noveniber'so that the <br />new council members can be involved in the process. r • <br />IX. Open Government Charter Amendment. <br />Discussion was held.about the Open Government procedures and about the <br />limitations placed on a working advisory board by not being able to circulate <br />• working documents freely. If this becomes a serious' impediment to the Board <br />
