Minutes Revised on 12.4.12 <br />Open Space Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />Oct. 10, 2012 <br />Page 2 of 5 <br /> The City (a collaboration between Public Works and the Open Space Division) <br />will host “Get to Know Your H20” on Oct. 22 from 7-8. <br /> Oct. 28 from 3-4 – Spooktacular Critters. Registration is currently on-going <br />through the Recreation Center. <br /> An update on the McCaslin underpass will come before the board in November <br />or December. <br /> Catherine has been promoted from a seasonal worker to Open Space Specialist. <br />Ember has been promoted to Open Space Manager. <br /> The jointly-held Warembourgh Property / Coal Creek Trail area (Dillon and 96th <br />St.) has had a confirmed sighting of a mountain lion. Staff plans to try to use the <br />motion detection equipment to photograph it. <br />th <br /> The Public Works Dept. installed striping and signage at 104 and Cherry for a <br />safe pedestrian crossing. <br /> Linda and Tom are due for open government training. <br /> Joe stated that the proposed budget for 2013 is out. Joe would encourage the <br />Board to appear before City Council in order to express the Board’s concern <br />about the proposed balance of the Open Space Fund. <br /> Many members of the Board expressed an interest in ensuring that the <br />o <br />Open Space Department has adequate staffing levels. <br /> The Open Space Fund has been relied upon to provide funds for the <br />o <br />McCaslin / Washington Underpass.The Open Space Fund will also likely <br />be used to fund the underpass at Co. Rd. 42 and under US 36. <br />VI. Board Updates <br /> Tom, Linda and Mike attended the annual Boulder County-wide Open Space <br />Meeting. <br /> Boulder County is expected to grow by 80,000 in the next 25 years. <br />o <br />Additionally, the population will age and become more diverse. How do <br />we accommodate this growth from an open space perspective? <br /> The Climate Change Study projects that there will be 2-3 degree <br />o <br />temperature increases and increased rain, with less snow. These <br />changes will have an impact on water rights and stream flow. <br /> Boulder County is working on developing the Union Pacific Rails to Trails <br />o <br />Project. This is a long term project. <br /> In the shorter term, they are also working on the US 36 bikeway. <br /> The All-County Way Finding Committee was launched at the meeting. <br />o <br />The plan is to coordinate way finding efforts across city boundaries. <br /> City of Boulder: Asked the neighboring municipalities to reconsider their <br />o <br />dog off-leash property designations, in an effort to relieve the pressures <br />occurring on City of Boulder properties. About half of the people who are <br />participating in the green tag program (voice and sight control) are from <br /> <br />
