Louisville City Council Meeting <br />July 17, 2001 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />REGULAR BUSINESS <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION - YMCA 150TM ANNIVERSARY <br /> <br />Davidson proclaimed the year 2001 marks the 150th anniversary of the YMCA movement <br />in the United States and marks the 127th anniversary of the YMCA of Boulder Valley. <br />Davidson presented the proclamation to Seth Goldman, EEO/Executive Director, YMCA <br />of Boulder Valley. <br /> <br />Seth Goldman, EEO/Executive Director of the YMCA of Boulder Valley, thanked the <br />Mayor and Council for recognition of the YMCA's 150th Anniversary. He reviewed the <br />history of the YMCA and reported that the organization is very pleased to have provided <br />services to the residents since 1874. He stated that they look forward to serving the City <br />of Louisville for another 150 years. He thanked the community for their support in <br />raising $300,000 this past year to subsidize programs. He stated that their number one <br />priority is teen and middle school programs, and the goal for the next four years will be to <br />reach one in five teenagers. He stressed that the YMCA is dedicated to building strong <br />kids, strong families, and strong communities. <br /> <br />Sisk recognized Councilman Brown, who is a member of the YMCA Board of Directors, <br />and thanked him for his efforts in helping the community's young people. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION OF CHECK FOR "FISHING IS FUN" PROJECT <br /> <br />Parks and Recreation Director Steve Baysinger reviewed that, while planning the Fishing <br />is Fun project, Gene Caranci and Dave Wyman met with City staff to discuss writing <br />grants to make the fishing pond handicap accessible. The Accessibility was achieved by <br />grading work and trail access featuring wheel stops and landscaping. The estimated cost <br />for making the fishing pond handicap accessible was $6,000. Baysinger stated that <br />through the efforts of Dave Wyman and Gene Caranci, $5,400 has been obtained for the <br />project. <br /> <br />Dave Wyman, Louisville resident, stated that he and Gene Caranci wanted to assist in <br />providing handicap-fishing docks for the "Fishing is Fun" project. He stated that they <br />worked with the Tri City Elks to hold a raffle with proceeds donated to the project. The <br /> <br />grant contributions include: <br /> <br />The Schwab Fund $4,000 <br />Storage Tek 500 <br />The Community Fund 500 <br />The April Fund 400 <br /> Total $5,400 <br /> <br /> <br />
