City Council
Meeting Minutes
December 4, 2012
LOUISVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 4T" GRADE PRESENTATION REGARDING
THE GRAIN ELEVATOR
Mayor Muckle asked the 4th grade students to make their presentation.
The 4th Grade of Louisville Elementary School, through the leadership of Teacher
Tiffany Boyd, worked with the Planning Division and representatives of the Museum to
recommend a fate for the Louisville Grain Elevator. The project included three classes
as a class project for the Civics Program.
City staff members Scott Robinson, Bridget Bacon, Richard Wheeler, and Sean
McCartney presented factual information about the Grain Elevator to the 4th grade
classes of Tiffany Boyd, Karen Fohrman, and Jessica Lawrence. The information
helped the students to decide on recommending saving or demolishing the building.
Students were divided into teams of three and four to make recommendations. All three
classes presented to a panel of 5 judges: Alicia Mahoney (Library Board), Dan Mellish
(Historic Commission), Richard Wheeler, Scott Robinson, and Sean McCartney on
Wednesday, November 14th at City Hall. The top 3 presented their recommendations to
the City Council.
The following fourth grade students spoke in support of preserving the grain elevator
and gave their reasons for preservation of historic structures in Louisville: Jack
Bushong, Leah Humphrey, Kate Walley, Carson Conley, Eli Thaler, Raina Manzaneres,
Ashli Hogan, Sean Oberholzer, Jayden Kazanter, Shouta Shaw and Callie Connelly.
2013 CITY COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS TO BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
Mayor Muckle reported the City Council met in a special meeting on Monday, November
26 and Tuesday, November 27 to interview applicants for 2012 vacancies on the City's
boards and commissions.
