Historic Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes October15, 2012 Page 2of 7 Pre-filing Conference–817 Garfield Avenue Robinson gave a presentation regarding the request. He explained the owners are interested in adding a front porch to the house, which was built in 1956. They wanted to hear what the HPC had to say. Dan Orecchio presented for the owners and has been hired to assist them with a front porch addition and window replacement.He gave architectural details of the house and how they would like to stay within the general context of the existing structure. Koertje asked if the appearance would be the same on the windows. Orecchio stated the goal is to improve the insulating value, but the appearance should stay somewhat the same –to match the style of the house Lewis asked if the intent was to match the existing fascia. Orecchio answered in the affirmative. Koertje asked if there was any evidence that there was a porch before. Orecchio stated there is no evidence. They just want the porch to be able to enjoy the front/street portion of the property. Stewart gave a rundown of how a subcommittee review works and how landmark eligibility is determined. Orecchio asked how the social history works. Lewis explained the process. She stated windows instill a great deal of loss when they are removed. Koertje did not believe there needed to be a social history prepared forthis request. Orecchio stated he appreciated the candid discussion because it is the unknown of the subcommittee review that makes the owners most nervous. Lewis stated this is a situation where the subcommittee could do an accelerated review. Public Hearing –DemolitionRequest –841 Parkview Robinson stated due to lack of a quorum there cannot be a public hearing on this item. Stewart asked what action can be taken. Robinson stated you can discuss this item informally. Lewis asked for more information regarding the process and if another public hearing is required.
