Louisville City Council Meeting <br />January 2, 2002 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />REGULAR BUSINESS <br /> <br />RECOGNITION OF COUNCILMAN KEVIN HOWARD <br /> <br />Mayor Pro-Tem Sisk recognized Councilman Kevin Howard as an outstanding member <br />of the City Council. He stated that Howard was forthright and did what was best for <br />Louisville. Sisk stressed that Howard was an outstanding representative for the City of <br />Louisville and an enthusiastic supporter. He stated that the citizens of Louisville <br />prospered because of Howard's efforts. Sisk extended the City's thanks for Howard's <br />twelve years of service. <br /> <br />Mayer stated that in September of 1989, he attended a Ward II meeting and met Kevin <br />Howard and later worked on Howard's campaign for City Council. Mayer emphasized <br />Howard's philosophy was that it was never a Ward II issue, but a citywide issue. <br />Mayer offered his best wishes to Howard in his new endeavors. <br /> <br />Howard thanked the citizens of Louisville for his twelve years of service. He reviewed <br />his twelve years in office and stated that one issue that prompted him to run for Council <br />was a landfill proposal. He stated that he spoke with business owner Joe Colacci, who <br />stressed that Louisville should not be known for a landfill but for its businesses. Howard <br />stated that twelve years ago, Main Street was subject to flooding and funds were limited <br />to correct the problem. He stressed that Main Street no longer floods. Howard stated that <br />twelve years ago, the playground equipment in the City's parks was dangerous. He noted <br />that now the City has many excellent parks with safe playground equipment. Howard <br />stated that many of the older residents complained that they could not get their streets <br />repaired and they were not comfortable with the level of police protection. He stated that <br />the streets are repaired and that there is a high level of police protection for all the <br />citizens. He thanked the citizens for their support and stated that Louisville is a great <br />City. <br /> <br />Sisk stated that it is an honor to serve the citizens of Louisville, and thanked Councilman <br />Howard for his many years of service. <br /> <br />CITY ATTORNEY REPORT <br /> <br />City Attorney Sam Light reported that after the organization meeting on January 7, 2002, <br />an Executive Session will be called to discuss pending litigation. <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER REPORT <br /> <br />City Manager Bill Simmons reported on the Downtown signage. He stated that the <br />Louisville Historic Downtown sign would have an additional sign on the bottom, which <br />will display Main Street and a pointing directional hand.
