She stated Louisville is a family orientated community and she did not
feel an indoor shooting range would be a good fit. She stated Louisville does not have
a large gun shooting population and noted there are other shooting ranges within thirty
miles from the City.
Lawrence Biebel, a resident of unincorporated Boulder County, spoke in support of the
indoor shooting ranges. He stated there are too few safe shooting venues in Boulder
County. As a former Forest Service Ranger he was quite familiar of the dangers and
hazards of unofficial shooting sites. He is currently a volunteer hunter safety instructor
and teaches fire arm safety at a Denver indoor shooting range. He felt indoor shooting
ranges provide a safe venue for teaching people to use firearms.
Jennifer Behringer, 155 W. Spruce Street, Louisville, CO also spoke in opposition to an
indoor firing range. She stated a firing range does not fit in with the types of businesses
currently in Louisville.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Mayor Pro Tem Dalton inquired why the ordinance is being continued to June 4 and if
there were any reason it could not be considered this evening. City Attorney Light
stated there was no reason the Council could not consider the ordinance this evening.
Council member Jasiak reported hearing from constituents who oppose an indoor
shooting range. She felt if the Police Department needs a shooting range that should
be a separate discussion.
