Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
Oct. 9, 2013
BRAD expressed a lot of interest in improved connections with the
CTC.
• Lots of comments about way finding at the open houses —
especially Coal Creek Trail as it goes through the golf course and
the neighborhoods. OSAB also received comments that Coal
Creek Trail was confusing in Superior.
People want a clear route from western Louisville to downtown —
without using downtown streets.
o Issues of regional connectivity were raised.
• YAB was more concerned with connections into other cities in the
area and to Steel Ranch.
Public was interested in keeping the diversity of the trail
experience, but definitely did not like the concrete trails nearly as
well.
• Concerns about the social trails on North Open Space
• Future meetings:
o Oct 10 — Planning (Tom)
o Oct 16 — Sustainability (Laura)
o Oct 21 — Historic Preservation (Alison)
o Oct 21 — Golf Course (Laura)
IX. Discussion Item: Flood Damage to Open Space Trail System
• Staff was asked by FEMA to identify damage. Staff has mapped the
damage on all open spaces.
• Coal Creek Trail, Davison Mesa and Coyote Run were the most damaged.
• Staff estimates two miles of trail damage, if you were to add it all up.
• Small repair projects are being done in-house.
• Bigger projects are being done on a contract basis — Davidson Mesa and
Coyote Run will probably be done this way, although nothing has been
officially decided yet.
• Staff will review these properties tomorrow and ongoing with FEMA, who
in turn will undertake their own review and determine whether the project
is eligible.
• OSAB discussed the general contours of the re -building plans — how do
we rebuild? Stream bank restoration? Resilience v. restoration?
X. Discussion Item: Coyote Action Plan
• Limited progress has been made, since the floods have been so time
consuming for staff.
• Ember plans to meet with other municipalities to see what they have been
doing and what language they have used.
• Staff has been tracking coyote incident reports using GIS.
00064672-1
