Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Nlinutes
January 13, 2014
Discussion — Grain Elevator
Stewart stated there was a subcommittee meeting with the developers last month (December).
Fasick gave an update of the subcommittee meeting stating the following:
• Roofing material — corten steel
• Gutters will be included, but will try to be hidden
• Corners of the structure, where the siding will meet, was being recommended by the
applicant to have a corner board. The HPC members disagreed
• There was discussion to remove one of the interior bins to create a stairway
Stewart stated they discussed adding an addition to the east (railway) side to connect the north
side to the south side. He stated a PUD would be required for these improvements.
Fasick stated they might put the parking towards the rear of the property to retain the
openness of the west side of the property. This would be contingent upon a discussion with
the BNSF.
Haley wanted to know when they could all come in for a tour.
Discussion — Federal preservation tax incentives
La Grave asked if this could be placed on the 2014 Annual Goals. He stated other
preservation programs focus on Federal tax incentives and he believes we should further
research this program so we can add it to our program.
Stewart agreed and stated SHPO recommended we consider approving and adopting Federal
and State Tax Credits.
Echohawk stated the article in the packet stated we should consider collaborating with other
preservation programs, City of Boulder or City of Lafayette, to seek a County tax rebate.
Discussion — Preservation month
Stewart asked if there were any ideas for the subcommittee, such as the awards we have done
in the past or workshops.
Fahey stated there is a volunteer who is putting together a booklet to include the social
histories of the local structures which have been landmarked.
La Grave stated we have funding put together a brochure for the program. Maybe we could
include the booklet in this budget.
Watson recommended having a booth at the Street Faire to give more information about the
program.
Echohawk stated it would be good to get kids involved, maybe bring in history teachers.
