Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />February 10, 2014 <br />Page 7 of 11 <br />Discussion – Grain Elevator <br />Stewart stated there wasn’t anything new to update since the last meeting. <br />Discussion – Structures of Merit <br />Robinson stated there is a provision to designate structures of merit, which can be done <br />without owners consent, and lets people know they have a valued structure. <br />Watson asked if we could use the surveys to create a list. <br />Robinson stated yes. <br />Watson asked the commission if they thought this should be considered a goal. <br />Stewart stated that is a good question. He said we have always done this as an award in the <br />past and they don’t all have to be in Old Town. <br />Fahey stated this might help with the education and outreach to bring this back. <br />Watson asked what the individual intent of this portion of the ordinance. <br />Robinson stated we can check into it. <br />Stewart stated he believes it was to create a category for structures that aren’t 50 years or <br />older. <br />Haley stated she said this would be interested to explore, but maybe not for this year. <br />Robinson stated this might be something to include in the Preservation Master Plan. <br />Watson stated we could also include elements or details of buildings, such as porte cocheres. <br />Fahey stated it can also be used to target structures, which is one of our goals. <br />Committee Reports – <br />Historical Commission liaison <br />Haley stated the following: <br /> Blue Parrot is getting murals put on their building <br /> Hecla Mine is having a driving tour in March as well <br /> They are working on a walking tour <br /> Preservation Month walk/run, collaborating with Human Movement, somewhat of <br />a scavenger hunt <br /> Printed versus online <br /> Mine Markers – can these be completed prior to preservation month. <br />
