Committee Member 2: Coal Creek Golf Course - 1 of 2 pages
The vision of early residents like John Sackett and others who had the foresight to see what a beautiful piece of
property this land was and worked tirelessly with City Council, land owners, developers, relators, bankers, etc.
to acquire the various properties and develop it into a golf course that would contribute to the image, reputation
and finances of Louisville.
It has provided an excellent place for residents to recreate and bring visitors / golfers AND business to the City
of Louisville.
Builders, realtors and City officials saw an opportunity to develop this farm / ranch land into Coal Creek Golf
Course and Coal Creek Ranch Homeowners Association with 486 homes surrounding this property with a broad
variety of houses in all price ranges (at the time)
It has helped foster the development of other commercial properties surrounding the course, e.g. Avista
Hospital, Home Depot, Lowes, AMC theater, Carrabba's, Chili's and many other restaurants and businesses
along the McCaslin Blvd. corridor
Building a golf course in Louisville in the late 1980's (Open in 1990) was a differentiator for the City as there
were no municipal / daily fee courses in the area except for Flatirons GC in Boulder.
The many 1000's of beautiful trees and the meandering creek (Sept 2013 changed it into a roaring river) clearly
separates it from the local competition which are largely flat treeless expanses of land.
The 10 lakes and 50 sand bunkers surely a differentiator which added to the interest, beauty and challenge of
this golf course. Fishing in the lakes has provided many hours of enjoyment for neighborhood children (and
adults) during non - golfing times. Sledding on `hospital hill' has been enjoyed (albeit without support from the
management company) by children every year and recently was endorsed by the City with the support and
©2014, Golf Convergence, Inc.
16
