Discussion: Wayfinding Subcommittee Update- Laura gave a presentation on the
results of the Wayfinding subcommittee meeting (presentation included in the minutes).
The subcommittee wants to see a hierarchical system where major trail corridors are
identified and called "Trails" and all the smaller trails are called "paths." Each "trail"
would be identified by a relevant name, unique color, and unique symbol. Then a
simplified "regional" system map could be developed with the "trails" and major
landmarks. These "regional" maps could be paired with "local" maps at major trail
intersections and a property entrances. Laura included photos of a similar system on an
innovative kiosk that the City of Boulder uses. The process of creating "regional maps"
reveals some critical missing crossings and connections, and suggests that an east -west
connection between the Lake Park paths and down town is missing. Laura suggested
that a natural venue for this connection would be bike lanes down South Street, as it is
both wide and the location of the planned underpass beneath the train tracks.
Spencer voiced a warning about too much sign clutter. Linda liked the maps and the
color coding.
