Pt,L uisvlle
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
Golf Course Advisory Board Tour Notes
June 18 2014
repair in progress. Boring the crossing between hole #1 and hole #2 is complete
without damage or inconvenience to residents.
Cart Path on Hole #4 At the last Board meeting, questions were raised about
the modified cart path plan. This routes a short cart path to the right of the tee
boxes then crosses between two tee boxes and proceeds down the left side of
the remaining two tees. Golfers will travel down the fairway to pick up the existing
cart path about 150 yards short of the green. It was agreed that this resolved the
safety and amenity issues and the Board believes that the cost of moving the
path to the other side of the tees was justified. Kevin Norby explained that
several design changes were made to encourage golfers to aim for the fairway
center rather than favoring the left side to avoid the trees. The trees were being
removed or trimmed to open up the right side, the cart path in the landing area
was being removed and the tee boxes were moved to the left in order to align tee
shots down the fairway. The new cart path would make golf carts scatter to the
left or right as they left the path while leaving it on the right side of the tees would
be further from the tee boxes and the scatter point would be in an area of poor
drainage. Removing the center portion of the cart path also allowed some
improvement of drainage from the fairway into the creek. The Board members
present accepted these reasons and with that explanation, approved the
modified plan.
Hole # 5: The tee boxes are being extended to spread out wear. An elevated
back tee is being built at about 175 yards and an extra front tee will be
constructed. The City forester will take care of the known root pruning issues
soon so that green preparation can continue on schedule in the next week. Allan
Gill to follow up with the City forester.
Hole # 8: David Moore's plan for the drainage improvements included all the
topics discussed in previous meetings other than the lowering of the tee boxes.
Kevin Norby agreed that lowering the tee boxes by up to 18" would not have an
adverse effect on playability but would involve a significant cost in moving the dirt
and a problem on where to put it given the restrictions on work in the flood plain.
Kevin suggested that he could modify the planned front tee on #8 to move it
closer to the property line and add a small finger on the left side that would
effectively divert water to the center of the fairway and block off water from
reaching the property boundaries. This front tee will be angled towards the
center of the fairway and provide a much better alignment for players. We also
discussed concerns over volume and velocity of water hitting 595 Augusta Drive
Kevin will discuss what can be done with David Moore of Alliance Engineering
and with the City Engineer. Ken will help coordinate a meeting with the affected
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT • 749 MAIN STREET • LOUISVILLE, CO 80027
(303) 335-4735 FAX (303) 335-4738
www.Iou isvil leco.gov
PARKS RECREATION SENIOR SERVICES OPEN SPACE FORESTRY TRAILS
GOLF
6
