City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />July 15, 2014 <br />Page 6 of 21 <br />Mayor Muckle asked if the current contract and new budget appropriation should be <br />done at a future date. Public Works Director Kowar requested the contract for work from <br />McCaslin to Via Appia can be approved this evening. At the next meeting the <br />necessary budget amendments and change orders can be presented to the City Council <br />for their approval. <br />City Manager Fleming asked City Attorney Light whether an emergency ordinance is <br />required to amend the budget. City Attorney Light explained a resolution can approve a <br />budget appropriation. <br />Council member Lipton asked Finance Director Watson about the amount of projected <br />sales tax surplus. Finance Director Watson explained the sales tax is currently trending <br />about 8% over budget. The revenue projection for sales tax for 2014 as a whole is still <br />5 %. He explained both the general and capital projects funds will benefit from <br />additional sales tax. He projected $300,000 to $400,000 in sales tax over the 2014 <br />budget. <br />Council member Lipton stated this excess sales tax is not identified in the revenue <br />projections and could be used as a down payment on the street resurfacing project. <br />Council member Loo asked if the extra $700,000 provides resurfacing from McCaslin to <br />Highway 42. Public Works Director Kowar stated it is from McCaslin to Main Street. <br />MOTION: Council member Keany moved to award the 2014 Street Resurfacing Project <br />and 2014 Concrete Replacement Project, seconded by Council member Stolzmann. <br />Roll call vote was taken.
