Amended on 8/18/2014
Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
July 21 2014

much more attractive from both sides and is expected to cut highway
noise significantly. Tree planting in this area will start in September.
d. Update on flood / runoff mitigation plans and schedules. This is
proceeding on schedule and within cost expectations. Work is ongoing on
shaping the tee boxes on hole #8 and clearing the banks of the Goodhue
ditch. David Moore has submitted the final tweaks to the plans for hole #3
to the City Engineer and no issues are expected. The Board believes that
this will address allhomeowner concerns.
e. Timeline for critical hires and potential outsourcing. The full-time Golf
superintendent position has been posted on the City website and on
“neogov” (a national database for public service job opportunities.) 20
responses have been received so far and Joe Stevens asked the Board to
provide two delegates to participate in the selection process with a view to
making the selection by the end of August. The Board agreed that Ken
Gambon and Dennis Maloney should participate. The schedule for the
other hires was included in the Board Packet, notably having the Head
Professional hired in Q1 2015. Councilman Keany suggested that the
teaching activity be outsourced as this might lead to more aggressive
marketing of the teaching program. Staff and the Board agreed this was
worth looking at and noted that the Board wanted the Professional Staff to
work more on teaching and less on clubhouse sales duties. Joe noted
that a fiber link be extended to the clubhouse to support the more
computerized booking system discussed in previous meetings, Assuming
a satisfactory proposal from LU, hiring a mechanic and additional grounds
staff can be delayed into early 2015 as grow-in responsibilities phase over
from LU to City staff. Selection of a Food and Beverage contractor will be
a two-stage process: first a request for a proposal (RFP) and then a
request for a quote (RFQ.) Joe also proposed asking candidates for a
tasting session and the Board was unanimous in volunteering. The intent
is still to have a “soft opening” of the clubhouse potentially in May 2015 a
month or so before the course re-opens.
f. Any project concerns / issues: None other than those discussed earlier.
Underlying rocks and the groundwater issues were the only noticeable
concerns. LU stated that problems with trespassers had been insignificant
although there was a suspicion of attempted joy-riding on the equipment
st
after dark. Chris Bradford noted that he will host a meeting on July 31 of
the Rocky Mountain Golf Superintendents Association. Topics to be
covered are the Master Plan for the Course, Disaster Recovery Status and
the FEMA experience.

··
Parks and Recreation Department 749 Main Street Louisville, CO 80027
·
(303) 335-4735 FAX (303) 335-4738
www.louisvilleco.gov
Parks Recreation Senior Services O
Golf
