Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
July 21, 2014
Stewart asked if the finished colors can match the roofing materials.
Hartronft stated these will be considered contemporary elements and designed as such so it
stands apart from the historical elements. He stated the color is bronze, which will be the least
obtrusive.
Haley stated natural sunlight is definitely a commercial viable component. She added the
south side of the building will not detract from the overall look of the building.
Fahey stated she is still concerned about the effect of the skylights on the stacked plank wall.
She was wondering if there could be shades included to further protect the wall.
Stewart stated most skylights are laminated glass which degrades the UV. He added the light
grazing the wall would highlight the material.
Hartronft stated the skylights come with an internal shade which can be used as well. He
stated the windows are 22" X 46 ".
Stewart made a motion to approve the alteration certificate.
Fahey seconded the motion.
Motion carries 4 to 0.
PUBLIC HEARING — 925 Lafarge Grant, Alteration Certificate
Robinson asked to continue this hearing until the next meeting in August. He added it
would be good if the board could give direction to the applicant on their request. He
stated the foundation is the biggest portion of this request.
Stewart asked if the historic photographs in the packet were new.
Robinson stated they were and they are pre -1948 assessor windows.
Haley asked if he would be interested in reinstating some of these elements on the
house.
Robinson stated he believed so.
Stewart stated he believes these elements appear to provide more character.
Haley stated she would prefer if they did wood windows.
Fahey liked the shutters.
Stewart stated the foundation work should be done first before the windows are
addressed.
Fahey made a motion to move this item to the August meeting.
