Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
August 13th, 2014
they are on concrete footings. Ember said the stone benches are actually more
affordable than the black metal benches. The City will reserve the right to move them.
Helen asked about ADA issues, and Ember said that they tried to select sites where
there wouldn't be any. The board discussed issues like bench clutter, number of
benches allowed per family, what kind of language would be allowed on benches (e.g.
do people will need to avoid overtly religious inscriptions on publicly -owned land ?).
Maintenance issues were also discussed. If the bench is damaged, who pays? Should
the arrangement have a sunset date? Tom suggested that a 25 year sunset date might
be reasonable. Linda thought that people who wanted longer sunset periods should be
able to pay for them. Jeff explained that the CU campus does similar projects and
people can chose to pay for longer sunset periods, and the maintenance issues make
them cost more than they initially seem. Helen summarized by saying that OSAB
supports the concept, the bench types, and using pre- determined locations, and next
steps will involve additional work on rules, time periods, regulations, and policy.
XII. Discussion Items for Next Meeting on September 10Th:
1) The presentation on the Urban Drainage Outfall System Plan from Public Works.
2) Invite Lafayette Open Space Board to also review #1 and tell us about their
wayfinding grant.
3) Review the final draft of the Coyote Management Plan in October.
4) Joliet Public Works County Rd. Bridge designs for November.
5) Meet with Superior board in December?
6) Meet with Boulder County board later in year?
XIII. Adjourn
Linda motioned to adjourn the meeting. Laura seconded. The meeting adjourned at
10:00 pm.
7
