Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
August 18, 2014
Fahey made a motion to approve the probable cause determination.
Fasick seconded.
Watson asked to make a friendly amendment about the monetary amount.
Fahey and Fasick agreed.
Motion approved by voice vote.
PUBLIC HEARING — 925 Lafarge Grant, Alteration Certificate
Watson introduced the item and asked the Board if they had any conflicts. None were heard.
Robinson presented staff's report which is a request for a grant for foundation work, windows
and an alteration Certificate to relocate a rear door. He shared updated bids with the Board
and stated the total grant will be $20,000 with an applicant match of $15,000. He added staff
believes the changes in the Alteration Certificate comply with the criteria and recommends
approval for the grant and Alteration Certificate.
Fasick stated the grant table was very helpful.
Mark Bruener, owner, presented the reasoning for his request and background for the bids and
need for the upgrades.
Haley asked about the front window and what he decided will be the period of significance and
whether the original shutters would be brought back.
Bruener stated he liked the shutters and the original windows.
Fahey asked about the front door. She said the front door looks 50's but the rear door looks
older.
Bruener stated he is probably going to stay mid - century modern, even though the front door is
not original. He stated he is not planning on doing anything to the back door.
Stewart states he feels as though this is a complete picture of what he would like to see and
appreciates all of the hard work that has gone into this application. He stated he is in favor of
the larger double hung windows with the divided light. He added he thought the shutters are
optional in his opinion.
Watson stated we should include Stewarts predication for a specific window type in our
decision. He then asked if any other Board members have any additional requests they would
like included.
No additional conditions or requests were heard.
Echohawk asked if the wood window casings were going to be required.
