Deliverables: Final sign package, bid package,
cost estimate and three color /material boards.
2.3. Installation Locations for Each Sign
Type
Recommendation: Utilizing an ArcView layer
provided by the City of Louisville, our team will
evaluate the project area, identifying the location of
existing signage, areas where new signs are needed,
and any potential visual /environmental /maintenance
impacts of existing and proposed signage. After
finalizing the location of proposed new signage and
the number of existing signs that require updates
(and the nature of the updates), our team will create
a phased implementation plan for installing the
recommended signage updates. Each implementation
phase will be assigned a cost and timeframe.
Deliverables: Map and ArcView layer with
recommended sign locations, implementation
phases and cost estimates /timeframes for
each phase.
3: TRAILS
3.1. Trail System Analysis and Improvement
Recommendation: Our team will identify and
analyze the entire trail system and generate mapping
to better define the system. A hierarchy of trails will be
established and used to establish a naming system.
This will be used to help guide the sign package
development. Infrastructure improvements will also be
recommended.
• Information Gathering / Enhanced Composite
Mapping: Existing trail mapping, 2013 Open
House Trail Recommendations, Planning Department
Recommendations, and PROST Master Plan
Recommendations will be combined into a single file
to begin the analysis. The existing mapping will be
enhanced by clearly differentiating between trails,
neighborhood connectors, sidepaths (8' wide and
greater), and sidewalks (less than 8' width). Key
destinations, trailheads, underpasses, and improved
street crossing locations will also be shown.
Deliverable: Working maps in Google Earth, ArcView
and /or PDF formats.
• Trail System Analysis: The existing mapping will
be further enhanced by establishing the hierarchy
of trails. Potential Primary Trails, Secondary Trails,
and Neighborhood Connector Trails will be identified
and clearly differentiated on the maps. Existing trail
segments will be joined together to form long distance,
continuous trail corridors that will be named and
uniformly signed for easy navigation by trail users.
After the initial trail hierarchy is defined, we will analyze
the entire system (both in the office and on the
ground) to identify infrastructure improvements that
could be made to further expand /enhance and improve
the trail system. Our recommendations will include:
• Additional trail segments to be added to expand
the Primary Trail System or increase connectivity to
neighborhoods, destinations or other trails.
Minor alignment improvements within existing trails to
improve safety or travel efficiency to make the system
more user - friendly.
Minor trail / trail intersection layout improvements to be
consistent with the established trail hierarchy.
• Trail /roadway crossing improvements, including
underpasses, overpasses, or at -grade crossing
enhancements and curb ramp location improvement
and ADA compliance.
The recommended infrastructure improvements will be
identified in the mapping. This mapping will be further
refined during the design process to incorporate input
from Staff, OSAB, and the Public.
Deliverable: Working maps in Google Earth,
ArcView and /or PDF formats.
Refinement of Infrastructure Improvement
Recommendations: After the desired infrastructure
improvements have been identified and refined
with input from staff, OSAB and the public, we
